On My Hamblec'a Tomarrow

OK everyone. I'm leaving for Hamblec'a tomorrow, and it will be about a week before you see me out here in cyber space again.

600 of 700 DONE!

Well May is almost gone, and June brings Hamblec'a. These are prayer ties. We use each of the seven sacred colors and cut out little patches of cloth. Inside the cloth is a small amount of tobacco. The patches are tied shut with the tobacco inside them, and we make a string of 100 of each color. These are used to protect me while I sit on the hill and pray for 4 days. No food or drink during that time. Very intense, very solom.

My friend Roberto Codato will be here on June 8th, and we will immediatly leave for Porcupine South Dakota. There we will be doing an Inipi Ceremony every day for four days, and then I will go on that hill. Funny thing. It's my 45th birthday on the day I go up on that hill. June 12th. Roberto will be my fire keeper during that time. The fire must stay lit for the entire four days, and he'll keep me good in that respect.

I'll try and send a posting to CRC whilst I am up at South Dakota, but you'll not hear from me while I am on the hill. There it is just me, and The Creator, Tunkas'ila.

More Is Better

I'm weeks away from going on Hamblec'a. (Vision Quest) There are alot of medicines needed for this important 4 day ceremony. Sage is a key element. Now my Fireman, Roberto, sent me 18 pounds of White Sage from California, that I have tied into smudge sticks and dried. This is Spear Sage from my neck of the woods that we use at Inipi Ceremony, Sun Dance, and Hamblec'a.

A good friend, Jenny, has donated this sage for my Hamblec'a, and I am sure I will be gifting it to others who may not have access to it.

I have layed it out here to dry in the sun. Soon, I will be praying on a hill in South Dakota under a bed of this sage. In our spiritual belief, sage keeps the "Bad Spirits" away. They cannot stand the stuff. This allows the one crying for the vision to be surrounded by the Spirits that will give them their vision, and not harm them.

Hamblec'a is the perlude to Sun Dance, and in August this healing ceremony will begin. I hope to be there in whatever capacity thet the Spirits deem necessary. Be it as a supporter, or the grand privilage of dancing The Sun Dance.

From Another Time

I was at the quarry today and this was in the bottom of the pit. Look at it compared to the size of my glove.

This is the fossalized footprint of a Dinosaure. No kidding. I brought it home as a conversation piece, and I am sure it will be with me for a life time. That is just a blink of time considering how long it has been buried. Millions of years! The darned thing was not easy to get either. It was in the ground about 15 feet down and beneath a layer of rock called Cherokee Stone. Where I live is along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Our quarry is in the foothills, and that my friends, back in the days of the Dinosaure was an inland sea coast. The Dinosaures roamed the banks of the sea, and left us this reminder of the time that humans were not. So next time someone wants to give you the old bible thump about no dinosaures ever existing? Well the proof is in the pudding. One of the toes actually shows skin wrinkles. AMAZING!

Getting Medicine

My very good friend who lives in Santa Monica took a little journey for the preparation for Hamblec'a. White sage grows in Southern CA., and I asked Roberto, the guy with the shirt on his head, to gather sage for me, and as you all can see he did, and did well. He will be flying into Colorado on June 9th, and I'll be picking him up at the airport. Then the 2 of us will be going to Minnisota for this first of the rest of my life, Hamblec'a.

His actor buddy Aubry was so kind as to go with him on the sage gathering duty, and by the looks of it, they hit gold! Gold of the medicine kind.
